Course Overview:

Working Alone Safely in British Columbia examines how OHS laws across Canada and within British Columbia address the issue of working alone or in isolation, and describes practical safety measures that can protect workers from the hazards associated with working alone.  

Who Should Take the Course?

Working Alone Safely in British Columbia is an important training tool for workers who perform job duties while working alone or in isolation and for supervisors, managers, and employers of such workers. 

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of Working Alone Safely in British Columbia, participants will be able to: 

• Define ‘working alone or in isolation’ 
• Recognize that BC is one of only five provinces that have legislation which specifically addresses ‘working alone or in isolation’ 
• Identify the OHS responsibilities of BC employers when employees work alone or in isolation 
• Identify the BC OHS requirements pertaining to ‘ working alone in late night retail premises’ 
• Describe the elements of an effective check-in procedure 
• Describe practical safety measures that can be implemented to reduce the risks associated with: 
    • Working with cash and other valuables 
    • Working alone in isolated circumstances 
    • Meeting clients alone at off-site locations 
    • Travelling alone 
    • Working alone with hazardous substances 

Evaluation Process:

At the end of each module, there is a test. Participants that do not achieve 100% can review the module content and try as many times as necessary to complete the course. Test questions are randomly selected from a test bank, making each test unique. 

Upon successfully completing all modules, there is a printable certificate for your records.

Course Duration:

This online course is self-paced. Participants may leave the course at anytime and can resume where they left off. The duration will depend on the individual participant and their prior knowledge of the subject matter. On average, the course will take approximately 1 hour to complete.
