WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) Refresher is a hazard communication system designed to ensure workers using hazardous materials, also known as controlled products, have all the necessary information to safely handle, store and dispose of these materials. This course is intended for individuals who have a solid understanding of the subject matter contained in this course.
The course is presented in 6 units that consist of the following:
Unit 1: An Introduction to WHMIS
Unit 2: Product Labels
Unit 3: Hazard Symbols
Unit 4: Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDSs)
Unit 5: Responsibility for WHMIS Training
Unit 6: More Information about WHMIS
The primary objective for the online WHMIS Refresher course is to provide course participants with the skills necessary to access and apply the information needed to protect their health and safety while working with WHMIS controlled products. The course meets the legislated worker training requirements for all Federal and Provincial workplaces in all provinces and territories.
At the end of each module, there is a quiz that each course participant must challenge and successfully complete with a passing grade before continuing to the next content module.
The course is self paced so course duration will depend on the individual participant and their prior knowledge base with the course subject matter. On average, the course will take between 1–3 hours to complete.
Who Should Take the Course?
The course is intended for any employee that comes in “close proximity” to a hazardous material(s) and already has a solid understanding of the course material.
Please Note: Employers will have to supplement this training with worksite specific training to ensure that their workers are aware of and understand the hazards associated with the controlled products that they use and how to safely work with them.
